Research Faculty Awards

Description of the Awards

The College of Sciences (CoS) offers three awards annually for Postdoc and Non-Tenure Track Research Faculty.  All three awards have a minimum one-year CoS service requirement prior to the nomination deadline and are in the amount of $1500.

CoS Outstanding Jr. Research Faculty Award (postdoc award)

The CoS Outstanding Junior Research Faculty Award recognizes postdoctoral research faculty who have made exceptional research contributions with significant impact on their field of study.

CoS Outstanding Sr. Research Faculty Award (research scientist award)

The CoS Outstanding Senior Research Faculty Award recognizes non-tenure track research faculty who have made exceptional research contributions with significant impact on their field of study.

CoS Research Faculty Community Trailblazer Award (postdoc or research scientist)

The CoS Research Faculty Community Trailblazer Award recognizes postdoctoral and non-tenure track research faculty who have demonstrated and sustained leadership that strengthens the sense of community among research faculty within the CoS.

2024 RF Awards

This is a call for nominations for the College of Sciences Postdoc and Non-Tenure Track Research Faculty Awards 2024. Please nominate either yourself or another research faculty member in CoS for one of the three awards using the application. The deadline for submission is Monday, February 19, 2024 (extended from Monday, February 12, 2024).

2023 RF awards (event photos)

The CoS Outstanding Junior Research Faculty Award and CoS Outstanding Senior Research Faculty Award recognize postdoctoral and non-tenure track research faculty who have made exceptional research contributions with significant impact on their field of study:

  • Junior Research Faculty: Claudia Alvarez-Carreño, postdoctoral fellow in Loren Dean Williams’ research group, Chemistry and Biochemistry.
  • Senior Research Faculty: Mu Gao, senior research scientist in the School of Biological Sciences

The CoS Research Faculty Community Trailblazer Award recognizes postdoctoral and non-tenure track research faculty who have demonstrated and sustained leadership that strengthens the sense of community among research faculty within the College of Sciences:

  • Eric Shen, research scientist in John Reynolds’ group, Chemistry and Biochemistry

2022 RF awards

Congratulations to the following individuals who received the first annual research research faculty awards 2022:

  • Outstanding Junior Research Faculty Award: Gina R. Lewin, postdoctoral fellow in Marvin Whiteley’s research group, Biological Sciences
  • Outstanding Senior Research Faculty Award: Anton S. Petrov, research scientist II and co-investigator of the Center for the Origins of Life in Loren Williams’ research group, Chemistry and Biochemistry
  • The Research Faculty Community Trailblazer Award recognizes postdoctoral and non-tenure track research faculty who have demonstrated exceptional and sustained leadership that strengthens and improves the research faculty community: Micah J. Schaible, research scientist II in Thomas (Thom) Orlando’s research group, Electron and Photon Induced Chemistry on Surfaces (EPICS) Lab, Chemistry and Biochemistry.
